Prior to the enactment of Federal Laws mandating educational rights for disabled children, it was up to individual parents, like my mother, to fight tooth and nail to ensure that their disabled children received an appropriate education. Growing up as a child with a physical disability, watching my mother struggle for my own education, I saw many doors slammed in her face. These experiences shaped my strong commitment to ensure that no other child would be denied a free and appropriate education.
